Wish them luck, The Dutch are different than us. I remember doing the Nijmegen Four Day Marches and getting the medal and being told that the Dutch Army authorized it for wear with the uniform.

A Peaceful Sunday Afternoon

It was a peaceful summer Sunday afternoon. Mom and dad and the kids just came home from church.

"Ok kids upstairs and change your clothes" dad said. He then grabbed his wife and have her a big hug,

wiped the tears from her cheeck.

They had just attended the funeral of their best friend's son. It was a sad and somber ceremony. Joe had died

while serving in the military. His pall bearers were all fellow servicemen from his hometown. Marines, Air Force, Navy, Army were all… Continue

A Time of Peace?

“A Time of Peace?”

Once upon a time, following the “war to end all wars” there was a time of “peace”. Or so it was called, it was a peace that was fraught with tension, threats and great fear. The world was attempting to find peace, but it was not an easy task.

Two super powers, the United States and its allies, and the Soviet Union and the Communist Bloc nations

seemed bent on destroying each other. It began in a small way and continued to escalate, from September 194… Continue

Are Some Veterans More Deserving"

I had this published on NBC Newsvine, if you would like to read it there, leave a comment and vote for it
would be appreciated. A link for the Newsvine
http://jerterw.newsvine.com/_news/2008/08/27/1793273-are-some-veterans-more-deserving

Why does it seem that "Combat Veterans", or "Foreign Service", or "Wartime" veterans are treated differently than non-combat vets?

Some of the Veterans Servi… Continue

Why Does Congress, DOD, VA Hate Veterans

erald TerwilligerWe were called to serve, either volunteered or were drafted. We spent our tour of duty in the military with pride
and honor. In far away places, we were sent to some places that were very harsh, the cold of Germany or Korea in the winter; and the heat of the jungle in Vietnam, the desert of Iraq and Afghanistan.

We did as we were told, went where ever we were sent. Ate, slept, showered when and where ordered. Put our
normal lives on hold, and lived not as a private citizen, but… Continue

A Mother's Day Wish For All Women In Uniform

Happy Mother's Day To Women In Uniform, Past Or Present

You served our Country proud and true
Even if it took you far from home and family
You stood tall, you did your best

You may have missed birthdays and all the holidays
School plays, band recitals your seat was there emptily
You may have wondered why am I here
Will they know me when I return

Then you came home, and without a doubt
You knew them by their happy, tearful shout
Welome home Mom, we love you so
We missed you and were sad when y… Continue

This is entirely appropriate to be recognized in this manner as a "Supporter" and myself have honored several hundred veterans of all services as "Supporters" for their volunteer work in support of the Army and its Veterans. Its just the implication in the news article that you were recognized as an "Army Veteran" instead of clearly showing you were an ""Army Supporter" as in this case. Thankyou for your support. However I still have no strong feelings that a "Cold War Medal" is coming in the future especially with all the later campaigns. I see soldiers today with one Good Conduct Medal and two or three rows of service medals and campaign ribbons from Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. Before going to Vietnam all I had for 13 years was a National Defense Service Medal.

Jerri, How did you become "an Army Veteran for a day?" Saw that you got an Army Freedom team salute Commendation. As an Ambassador I am well aware that veterans of the other services are not eligible for this commendation.
